Volunteers
The Mental Health Association in Suffolk needs the services of volunteers to assist in the operation of the organization. Volunteers are matched to specific jobs based on skill level and interests.

MHAS needs volunteers to help with the following:

Office Assistant
Office assistants help in the office doing activities including: faxing, making photocopies, filing and collating brochures and directories.

Writers
Do you enjoy writing and have an interest in the mental health field? If you would like to help keep our readers abreast of current events, then why not write for The Voice, the Mental Health Association's community newsletter.

Information and Referral
Our Information and Referral line receives 20-30 phone calls a day from individuals, families and professionals looking for mental health resources, advocacy and information on supplementary services.

Event Assistant
Event assistants help with the general setup, decorating and cleanup of various events/fundraisers the organization coordinates throughout the year.

Internships

The Mental Health Association offers opportunities for students pursing a career in human services; including social work, psychology and mental health counseling with an opportunity to work in the mental health field. Our interns typically make a commitment of one to two semesters and work an average of eight hours per week.

Our goal is to provide each intern with an experience that will enhance their academic program; while familiarizing him or her with the culture of a human service organization. Typical internship assignments include the provision of information and referral services, community education and assessments, the coordination of events and conferences, and other special projects.

Interested parties should submit their resume and cover letter to MHA. Please check with your academic institution regarding their specific requirements for your internship.

We also have internship opportunities for consumers completing our Peer Specialist Training Classes. Please click here to learn more about our Consumer Training Programs.
