School Education Program
Since 2007, the MHA has conducted an education program within the schools in Suffolk County. The purpose of the program is to instruct the children and teachers in understanding the various aspects of mental illness, thereby promoting mental wellness to the students and our community. The success of the program is reflected by the fact that each year our contact numbers continue to grow having reached several thousand students to date. Presentation topics include “An Overview of Mental Health”, “Mental Illness: Building Understanding and Tolerance”, “Coping Skills: Managing Stress and Your Emotions”, and “What a Difference a Friend Makes”. It is through today's youth that we can carry the message to many more in the community to educate and advocate towards an accurate view and better understanding of mental illness.
