Through Conferences and Events, MHA is committed to educating and informing hundreds of Suffolk County residents and professionals on mental health issues.

Registering for an Event or Conference with the Mental Health Association in Suffolk County is quick and safe. Our security features ensure that the information you send will be inaccessible to anyone but the MHAS Administration.

Seating is limited so please register no later than one week before the date. If the event is full, payment will be refunded. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations.

The MHA does not share the names of its attendees with any other organization.

STRESS AND ANXIETY DISORDERS IN CHILDREN

Donna Pincus, Ph.D.

Dr. Donna Pincus is the Editor and creator of The Child Anxiety Network ( www.childanxiety.net ), and is currently a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, an Associate Professor at Boston University, and is also the Director of the Child and Adolescent Fear and Anxiety Treatment Program at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders at Boston University.
Dr. Pincus received her graduate training in Clinical Psychology at SUNY Binghamton, specializing in the assessment and treatment of children’s fears and anxieties, and children’s coping with stressful events. Dr. Pincus completed her clinical internship and post-doctoral training at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Donna Pincus is currently the Principal Investigator of an NIMH funded study investigating the development of a treatment for young children with separation anxiety disorder. Dr. Pincus was recently interviewed on the NBC Today show, Nick News, National Geographic, Women's Lifetime Television Network, and was featured in a 20/20 ABC News segment on childhood panic disorder.

 

The Mental Health Association in Suffolk County, and the Suffolk County Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services, welcomes you to the 2010 workshops on Issues in Children's Mental Health. We are pleased and proud to offer you expert presenters in fields pertinent to children's mental health.

The registration fee is $40.00.   Registration after September 10th, is $50.  For online registration only, the additional $10 will be collected at conference sign-in.  Space permitting, registration on the day of the conference is $60.

On the day of the workshop, sign-in is at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. CEU's will be given for attendance and certificates will be distributed at the end of the workshop. Scholarships are available for parents of emotionally disturbed children.

ADOLESCENT GIRLS' TRAUMA AND CRISIS: PRACTICAL AND USEFUL TOOLS FOR PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS

Explore “the culture of rage and despair”—the insidious ingredients that can lead to disturbed behavior and feelings By examining the adolescent passage, the role of consumerism and the media, developmental stages, and aspects of school and home life, Straus will lay the groundwork for the practical interventions. Targeting specific problematic behaviors for helping girls overcome their distress and climb out of crisis.

P.K.–Coram: Monday 9 am-2 pm & Wednesday 9am- 2pm
Peer Recovery and Wellness Specialist , A 12-week training course focusing on showing consumers how they may use their personal experience and the knowledge gained in this course to become successfully employed in entry-level human service jobs.


Personal Development, 8-week course focused on self-awareness and self-esteem, positive self-talk, socialization and goal-setting.

Recovery & Wellness Networking Meeting

meets once per month to discuss issues related to working and seeking employment as a peer specialist.
